"You can’t make art by making art"

David Ireland
August 25, 1935 - May 18th 2009

A self-described "post-discipline" artist guided by Zen thought and postmodern aesthetics, David Ireland was a beacon of artistic practice and conceptual action. Through his great fame and talent he gave a face to Bay Area Conceptual Art.  His practice was a direct reflection of living and working in San Francisco and Oakland area. All Bay Area owe many thanks to David and his work. What was great about David Ireland too was that he did not fully commit himself to art until he was in his early 40s, after traveling extensively around the world and working as an architectural draftsman, carpenter, designer, businessman and African safari guide; adding experience and insight to his work. A True Bay Area Artist.
